Activity News
In March we enjoyed a presentation from Angie Sperfslage, from the extension office who talked about the history of 4H and the extension office. She did a lot of trivia with the residents and handed out candy if they got the right answer. She did a great job and a lot of residents talked about when they were 4 H leaders.
Mariah Schmitt, Dairy Center Coordinator from the Northeast Iowa Dairy Foundation in Calmar gave a very interesting presentation March 5 and we toured the dairy two days later. Everyone loved learning about the robotic milking and seeing it actually being done. The group loved touring the dairy barn so much they want to go back again in the summer. Everyone agreed it looked a lot easier than milking the cows by hand like they use to do!
The residents have had a lot of fun watching the different farm cams we have on the TV and computer in the activity room.
Carol Gilbertson, from Luther College gave a presentation on Women and the Reformation for Women's History Month.
Our new Who’s Who game has been a hit and will continue for the next few months. Annie’s Dancers will be visiting us April 3 at 6:30. We will have a musician who is new to us but not new to music on April 30 at 6:30. Janet Lieb is from the Dubuque area and performs a wide variety of memorable music from the 40's to the 70's. Janet delights audiences while inviting sing-a-longs. Janet has been successfully performing music most of her life, from lead roles in local musicals and singing folk music in the 70's traveling nationwide with her husband. We will have a speaker from Seed Savers on April 19 at 3:30 to help kick off our new monthly garden club.
Looking ahead to May we will be celebrating National Skilled Nursing Home week May 13-19. We want to have a resident talent show on May 17 from 2:30-4:00. If your loved one at Wellington Place had a talent for quilting, cross stitch, wood working, crocheting, making jewelry or any other talent please talk to Christine or Lynn in the activity department. We are also having a Mother’s Day concert and desserts on May 6 at 1:00. We encourage everyone to come and join your mom for a concert and delicious desserts!
