Darleen was born in Carrol County, Iowa to farmers D.J. Wanck and Kathryn Bockman on October 25,1922. She joined two older sisters and one older brother. She was later joined by two sisters and two younger brothers. Growing up on a farm they were always very busy with their huge garden and working on the farm.

They were married on November 30,1942 and farmed near Sioux Rapids. Three children joined their family: Dale, Virginia and Dave. Dale died in 2016 of cancer.
Darleen and Lawrence traveled to a lot of Air Force bases to see their sons. Dave was a pilot and Dale was a mechanic in the Air Force. They also had a great vacation in Alaska. Darleen and her family liked to fish and went up North a lot on vacations.
Darleen has four grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Lawrence passed away in 2006. Darleen stayed on the family farm until 2016 when she came to Wellington Place. Darleen states, “I’ve had a good life, good kids and a very good husband.” Congratulations on being resident of the month and we are glad you are part of the Wellington family.
