Gloria Carpenter October Resident of the month
Gloria was born October 31, 1928 in Albert Lea, MN to Robert and Martha Wohlhuter. She joined her brother, Robert Jr. She attended Albert Lea school and graduated in 1946. She enjoyed shorthand and typing in high school and knew she wanted to be a secretary. Immediately following graduation, she started working at Interstate Power Company as a secretary. She worked there for 7 years and met Curt Carpenter who also worked for Interstate Power Company. They were married June 18, 1950. They were blessed with two children Susan and Mark. When Susan was two years old, Curt was transferred to Decorah with his job at Interstate Power. Gloria was a homemaker and enjoyed volunteering for various organizations including their church, First Lutheran. Curt and Gloria enjoyed traveling and spent several winters in Arizona. They traveled to Norway two times and visited where her grandmother was born. Gloria has five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Curt passed away in 2010 and their daughter, Susan passed away in 2012. Gloria has lived here for two years and she still has her home on Rural Avenue in Decorah. Gloria enjoys doing the crosswords in the Cedar Rapids paper, reading, visiting and going to different activities at Wellington. Gloria will be celebrating her 90th birthday on Halloween and we wish her a happy birthday and congratulations on being October resident of the month.
